Today the Government has published an amendment to the second emissions reduction plan to reflect its revised approach to reducing agricultural emissions.
The second emissions reduction plan sets out the Government’s approach to meeting the second emissions budget, from 2026 – 2030.
The amendment consists of an updated second emissions reduction plan, to be read alongside a new supporting document, the ‘January 2026 amendment addendum’.

Separately, the Ministry for the Environment has corrected New Zealand’s emissions projections to 2050. This corrects a data omission related to the transport sector which led to an incorrect projections calculation.
